DutiesUnder direct supervision, to assist in performing the less involved and to perform the basic operations required, in maintaining substation sites, structures and equipment in operating condition, to assist in assigned phases of construction work, to handle materials and parts and to perform other related work.
Engage in the general handling of substation materials and equipment, loading trucks at storeroom, unloading and placing in designated positions at work site a variety of tools, materials and parts, taking part in the moving and positioning of heavy equipment items and loading materials to be returned to storeroom.
Assist in operations required in maintaining substation electrical apparatus and associated mechanisms, taking part in dismantling and reassembling equipment units and helping in repairing or replacing damaged parts.
Engage in basic operations for maintaining substation grounds and structures in proper condition, cutting grass and weeds, smoothing crushed stone surfacing's, filling holes and depressions, repairing damaged fencing, opening closed drains, replacing broken glass, scraping and repainting surfaces and assisting in making minor repairs to structures.
Help substation mechanics engaged in the more involved or precise operations required in maintaining substation electrical equipment and supervisory control installations by attending to tool and material- needs or by taking part in basic operations as directed; and help similarly in emergency work and in work on live conductors; also, help in assigned substation construction work.
Perform a variety of related operations such as driving a truck, helping in handling portable substations, cleaning substation equipment and grounds, changing and filtering oil and taking part in other similar work.
Maintain work equipment and areas in a clean, orderly condition, continuously observe company safety rules and practices, check condition of safety equipment, attend scheduled safety meetings, participate in artificial respiration practice as required and become familiar with safety manuals, rules and special procedures prescribed by the Company.
Comply with provisions set out in General Switching Instructions and perform other related work as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or applicable equivalent either in job training or study.
Normally, two years or more of Company experience in substation work or equivalent.
Familiarity with tools, materials and equipment used in substation work.
Must qualify for automobile operator's license.
